Posted

It may surprise you to know that this picture was not edited. I actually shot it just like this...unfortunately I cannot tell you how! Again, it is not my camera, it was a borrowed camera I was experimenting with, and I bumped some buttons and when I looked at the pictures on the computer (not in the bright sun on the small camera screen) I realized the colour was funny. I like it, but I wish I knew how I did it! On the other side of this tree is a small piece of grassy hillside (bordered by a creek) that someone could potentially walk on to get into our neighbour's backyard, but it is highly unlikely. I guess someone felt the need to demand solitude here. The sign is broken, but its message is still clear.

Cash & Gas

I have no idea where these signs originally came from, but they were part of the decor of our yard when we moved into the house in which we currently live. I actually really like them, but I think they'll stay when we move (if that ever happens). I edited the photo to look a little more antique - just like the signs.

Wildhorse 1

About a 20-30-minute drive from Walla Walla is Wildhorse Resort and Casino. In America, casinos are (as far as I know) only allowed in the state of Nevada, and any outside of that are on Native American reservations. This happens to be a reservation and the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla tribes have partnered to make this place available to everyone. There are many things you can do there besides gamble: golf, eat, shop, sit in a hot tub in the hotel...you pick! All with - you guessed it: Scenic Views. Tomorrow, a shot of the expansion in progress there.

Funny of the Week

I saw this sign on Highway 11 in Milton-Freewater on Saturday. I love signs, and I read them often. My husband commented recently that I read billboards way more than he does. Perhaps that has to do with my affinity for words, and perhaps it has to do with my job in public relations. Or maybe I'm just highly distractable. Whatever it is, I notice signs. And this one caught my eye. Poor Pastor Olesen! Enjoy the laugh for this week!

April Fools

I've been out of town and didn't have a chance to schedule postings, so I apologize for the tardiness of this post. It was supposed to go up April 1, for April Fools Day (or so it's called in the United States - what is it called where you live?). This poor quality photo was snapped through my car window when I noticed spur-of-the-moment that some humourous person (student?) had placed an umlaut on the Walla Walla U. sign. I found it amusing...it didn't harm anything, and it was pretty clever. Happy April Fools!

Welcome to Washington

Another poorly composed sign shot. Sorry. This is what greets drivers as they cross the aptly named Stateline Road headed north on Highway 11/State Route 125. Washington is NOT ever green...at least not on the eastern side of the state. The western side stays fairly green all winter, but over here it turns brown in October/November and doesn't start colouring up again until March. This sign, however, IS ever green. And for those who commute into WW/CP for work every day (housing is cheaper in M-F, and jobs are scarce, so this is a frequent occurance), this sign is a regular, familiar, and probably not often noticed anymore view.
