Poland 3

The view from the apartment where I stayed. All homes in Kolobrzeg are apartments. There are no houses, which was odd to me, since in America, every town has a combination of houses, apartments, condominiums, town houses, and other various types of living places. So these towering apartment buildings dot the town.

Poland 2

We went through several small towns between Berlin and Kolobrzeg, and I was enthralled by the beauty of them all. Here is one charming building with cute flowers in the windows.

Poland

In May I was privileged to travel to Poland for a few days to visit my sister, who was teaching English there. She showed me around the town for four days, then we spent a day in Berlin, Germany, before heading home on the same day. She had been in Poland for eight months by that time. Join me on a tour of Kolobrzeg (pronounced ko-AWB-jeg, with a soft French "j"), Poland, seen through the eyes of a small-town Pacific Northwesterner. Here is my view for the trip from the Berlin Tegel Airport to Kolobrzeg, an approximately 3-hour drive. And off we go!

Flashback

I took this just about a year ago when my daughter wasn't even a month old. Baby fingers, baby toes, baby eyes and baby noses...the best!

Happy Birthday 3

Four adorable little girls at a birthday party. This picture makes me smile every time, no matter how often I look at it.

Happy Birthday 2

The amazingly colourful birthday cake for the little birthday girl followed the party theme beautifully.

Happy Birthday

A friend of mine had a first birthday party for her daughter in July. One of my favourite parts was all the colours. The theme was stripes and polka-dots and these balloons were waiting for all the kids to take home.

Mini Road Trip 4

A little blurry...hard to take good dusk pictures with a low quality camera while driving 60 mph down the freeway. This is the sundown behind the Columbia River, the dividing line between Vancouver, Wash., and Portland, Ore.

Mini Road Trip 3

I had to laugh when we crossed the bridge and saw this guy parked on the Washington side. He sells local honey that he assumedly farms himself.

Mini Road Trip 2

The view East from the Bridge of the Gods. In front of us: Washington State. Behind us: Oregon. The towns in this area are fairly small - only a few thousand people. The drive from Walla Walla to Vancouver takes about four hours; this bridge is located a little over halfway there.

Mini Road Trip 1

My family and I went on a little road trip to visit some friends a couple of weeks ago. We took an alternate route from normal and approached our destination (Vancouver, Wash.) from the Washington side of the Columbia River as opposed to the Oregon side. To get to the other side we had to pay $1 to cross this beautiful toll bridge - The Bridge of the Gods. Join me on a mini-tour of the trip between Walla Walla and Vancouver.

Beauty in Every Corner

Even in summer there are bright colours that catch my eye from time to time - sometimes in the most unexpected places. These California Poppies were growing in cracks in the asphalt of a parking lot. I love the colour of these flowers.
