Farewell to Monday

This fabulous sunset took place Monday evening. The photo was taken near a Latter-day Saint church in Milton-Freewater.

Summer Sky

The sunsets in the Walla Walla Valley are not easily beat; this one changed so quickly I found myself snapping photos every few seconds trying to catch the beauty of it all. One redeeming factor of summer is that there are fantastic sunsets. Almost makes up for the typical 95+ degree heat (F). (Though I do have to say I've very much enjoyed this mild summer we've been having. I think we have only hit 95 twice, and we've stayed very close to 90 or under most of the summer so far. Very odd.)

The Grain Train

A little bit north on the track from yesterday and we find this abandoned train. I'm sure it moves from time to time as it's not yet covered with graffiti and wasp nests, but there was no engine in sight when I took this picture with my phone on a beautiful summer evening in Walla Walla.

Skywatch Friday

Sunset from my living room last week. See how others view the sky above them this week at the Skywatch Friday website!

Goodbye Daytime

Another view from my friends' house out in the country just past the state line in Oregon. They own 20 acres and grow alfalfa, corn, and other things, as well as sheep, goats, cows, cats, chickens and dogs.

Skywatch Friday

My neighbours have a weather vane on top of their shed that always catches my eye when the sky is lit up behind it. The geese silhouetted against this post-rain sunset were just too beautiful to pass up earlier this week.

Skywatch Friday

I drive past this field and farmhouse every day on my way to and from work. The sky was irresistible on this particular evening, and I love the silhouette of the tree against the soft colours in the clouds.

Skywatch Friday

The sky was AMAZING last Friday as I pulled into the store parking lot to grab a few items for supper. I had to take a few pictures, and of course I will share them with you for Skywatch Friday.

A Glimpse of Glory

A quick shot of the fading sunlight on the Blue Mountains as I flew down Highway 11 at 60 miles per hour.

Sky on Fire

Sorry it's a little blurry...I snapped this with my cell phone at a stop light on Highway 11 on my way home from grocery shopping a couple of weeks ago. I just LOVE it when the sky lights up like this. And it rarely happens in the winter; this is more of a summer thing.

Here Comes the Sun Again

Not an amazing picture, but the reason I took it is amazing: SUNSHINE! The valley hasn't seen this for over two weeks, and this was a brief glimpse, but definitely enough to make a lot of people smile, if only for a few moments. This shot was taken on my cell phone as I crossed Main Street after getting a haircut at my favourite salon, Bella. I have a couple of pictures of the salon to show you, too, but wanted to post the sunshine picture first.

Layers

A sunset earlier this week had the clouds simply glowing and it was irresistible.

Solitude

I was driving from a meeting in town back to my office when I saw this scene and knew I had to capture it. Fortunately I was on a semi-back road and there were no other cars, because I quickly pulled over and snapped this quick shot from my car. The sunset last night was beautiful! One of the many reasons to love the WW Valley.

From Under the Stormclouds

The sky was dark and foreboding when I snapped this quick photo with my cell phone, but the sun was doing its best to get below the darkness and light up the fall colours. Oh how I love autumn colours!

Idyllic?

Evening light casts a warm glow on a College Place barn and the Blue Mountains in the distance on a chilly fall day.

Old Glory

After a rainy afternoon, the sun broke through the clouds as it sunk toward the horizon and in the process, shone a spotlight on the American flag that flies near my home. Though this would make a perfect Independence Day shot, I couldn't wait another 10 months to use it, so I hope you'll forgive me for a patriotic shot out of "season," though I post this with the disclaimer that patriotism should be a year-round thing, not just felt and celebrated in July. While I'm not always proud to claim I'm American (there are a lot of people in my country who do really stupid things), generally speaking, I really am glad I live here. Where do you live, and why are you glad to live there?

Poland 4

Evening in Kolobrzeg. This was also seen from the apartment I stayed in during my time in Poland.

Mini Road Trip 4

A little blurry...hard to take good dusk pictures with a low quality camera while driving 60 mph down the freeway. This is the sundown behind the Columbia River, the dividing line between Vancouver, Wash., and Portland, Ore.

The Fairgrounds

Taken while driving one evening, this shot would have been tons better had I pulled over and not taken it through the windshield. Oh well, what's done is done. This is another iconic building in the valley: The Walla Walla Fairgrounds main building. During the fair, many different booths would be housed inside here, including the photography, sewing, and produce contest entrants.

WW Frontier Days #2 - Skywatch Friday

This was the sunset as my husband and I left the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days on Sunday. The building is on the fairgrounds, and was used to house horses brought for show and racing.
