A Small Break

This is a beautiful sculpture in the waiting area of the Family Birth Center at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. We became familiar with this piece of art while awaiting the arrival of our first child last Wednesday. Little Miss arrived that evening at a healthy 8 lb. 4 oz., and 21.6 inches long. Due to this new distraction, my posting on this blog may not be regular for a while. Please forgive me - I do plan to continue posting as much as possible and hopefully get back to daily postings soon. For now...I'll be busy learning how to be a mom!

At first, I thought the bronze statue was a little strange with two men and a woman. It wasn't until I saw the stethoscope around the neck of one of the men that I realized he was the doctor.

Big congrats on your little girl! What a wonderful time in your lives. Thank you for sharing your joy with us. I'm thrilled for you. Having just helped my little girl move away from home for the first time to another state last weekend (she is eighteen, just graduated high school and is off to try her new wings), I can say with confidence: treasure every single moment, take tons of photos, be good to yourself and take time for yourself, and when things get trying and hard, as they do for us all as we parent, know that whatever she's going through will change and you will be on to the next thing in her development. Our kids enlarge our own lives more than we can ever imagine, and they are such a blessing. Wishing all three of you much happiness!

If you listen, Little Miss will tell you all you need to know. And you can get some help with Priscilla Dunstan's DVD called Dunstan Baby Language that decodes the meaning of newborn vocalizations. I'm giving it as a present to all first-time moms & dads I know.

Hope you and Dad and baby are doing wonderfully!

Thank you, Meri! We are doing well...starting to get into the swing of things, I think, though we are still quite tired frequently. And I'm off just now to feed Little Miss - hopefully for the last time tonight! :)

Hi, just checking in to see how things are going with the new baby. Hope you are getting some sleep and that Little Miss is getting the hang of things and settling in well. Hope you'll share a photo when you can. I bet she's a cutie. Hope you're tolerating the heat okay. I have a friend due any minute with her 2nd, and hoping the temps stay down to something tolerable. Take care,
-Kim
